 Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the Better Than a Pill podcast. I'm Cari Vann. And I'm so grateful to be here again today to share with you. And today I'm going to talk about why physical therapy measures are not enough. When I say physical therapy. I'm mainly talking about conventional physical therapy.

Massage and chiropractic care.  Each of these measures has its place in healing and rehabilitation, but it's crucial to understand their roles and limitations.  One client that actually comes to mind when I speak about this is my client, Teresa, who by the way, is a recently retired physician from Nova Scotia.

Teresa has done all of these modalities yet was, and continues to be limited by the lack of a comprehensive, um, and holistic approach of physical therapy. In fact, she's currently seeing a physical therapist and is grateful she has other tools to maintain the rest of her body through this process because she's limited by the physical therapist's focus. 

She also used body work, but it wasn't the only thing she needed. And actually now she does not have to do massager body work as often because she has other tools to help her in this manner.  And when it comes to chiropractic, when we first started working together, She was seeing a chiropractor regularly and now she has not had to see one in over a year. 

Conventional physical therapy aims to restore function and alleviate pain using exercises and various treatments and can be effective for specific injuries.  That depends on the expertise of the physical therapist, right? However, it often lacks a comprehensive holistic approach, neglects maintenance of other parts of the body, and it lacks emphasis on mind body awareness. 


When it comes specifically to treating back pain, I believe that effective treatment requires much more than what conventional physical therapy alone has to offer.  Well, I incorporate appropriate physical therapy protocols. I also focus on activating weak muscles through breath, freeing up tension in areas that are pulling on the spine and integrating important movements of the spine and strength work over time. 


This holistic approach is so effective that physical therapists and doctors directly refer patients to me.  Massage therapy can be helpful for muscle relaxation, circulation, and stress reduction, and effective for certain types of pain and tension. However, it represents only one of the five critical pillars for optimal pain relief and injury prevention. 


Chiropractic care is known for its manual adjustments of the spine, which aim to improve alignment, relieve pain, and help the body heal itself.  The success of these adjustments can vary, often depending on the chiropractor's skill, and it can be good for certain types of back pain and other issues. 


However, in my years of working with individuals suffering from back pain, I've learned that you can adjust your own spine through targeted movements. I've also learned you can incorporate specific spinal movements and exercises into your daily routine, and both of these self management techniques Can provide a longer lasting solution and greatly reduce the frequency of your chiropractic visits.


In some cases, it may even eliminate the need for them all together.  Unfortunately, many people become dependent on these manual adjustments, yet the ultimate goal should be to no longer need them.  Unlike conventional approaches, my process addresses specific concerns while also improving overall health. 


The complete well body method is better than just seeking physical therapy methods because it's comprehensive. Physical therapy measures may address the area of the body that needs improvement. However, these measures do not focus on maintaining the other parts of the body, which can result in more problems such as injury or pain in other areas. 


Physical therapy measures are not holistic and do not promote mind body awareness. The complete well body method is a plan for life. It is an integrated approach that blends therapeutic movement, exercise, and a deep understanding of your body's interconnectedness.  offering the most effective long term solutions for pain relief and injury prevention.
